This weekend our little family headed for a quick trip to Washington, DC. Mr. Thompson and I have been anxiously waiting for the boys to be old enough to enjoy trips to our nation’s capital city, one of our favorite places to visit. Since it was their first trip, we decided to do “DC light,” spending very little time in the museums since the boys aren’t old enough yet to appreciate the collections of items that we find so interesting. At the National Zoo, the boys were thrilled by the pandas and the Komodo dragon, and when we visited the National Mall, they were amazed by the height of the Washington Monument and the statue of Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial. The weather was damp on Saturday so we skipped the White House and the Capital Building this time and ducked into the Museum of American History for an hour or so. Another highlight of the weekend for Daniel and Jack was riding the Metro; I was glad that the cars were mostly empty on a few rides to that the boys could stand holding onto the poles.
